Eddie and I are trying to eat healthier. Less potatoes and more veggies. Less candy and more fruit. I don't know how I would do it without pinterest! Such great ideas! We are both OBSESSED with potatoes. One of the best substitutions is cauliflower. Once steamed it takes on any flavor you mix with it.

Here is a new favorite recipe:

Loaded cauliflower (I use less cheese, bacon, & sour cream. I used extra green onions)

While waiting for Tuesday nights snow fall we tried spaghetti squash. Ed
wasn't too pleased, but I liked it. I always like some warm comfort
food when it snows. We hardly ever get snow, but this week was crazy.

Another great thing about the snow is I get to craft. I love scrap booking. Sure we have facebook, old myspace accounts, email, etc holding thousands of pictures, but it isn't the same. As quickly as technology is developing it is also becoming obsolete. Our kids will have the newest version of our generations social media then what?

Scrapbooks can be passed down. It shows your family something about your life. We all wish we new more about our parents, grandparents, great grandparents, etc in their younger years. This way we can leave some of that behind. Not every photo you own belongs on the internet. Once kids are in the picture I plan to sensor a lot more of what I post. No matter how "strict" your security settings are a creeper is a creeper and they know how to creep. The world doesn't need to see the first photos of my child nor every major or minor milestone. Scrapbooks allow us to go crazy and still keep life safe. What if your kid runs for president one day? Do you really want his opponent to be able to bring up the picture of their first time on the potty or your post about them as teenager doing something wrong? I can leave notes in scrapbooks and keep track of history. Its fun to sit and look at adventures Eddie and I had when we first started dating and reminisce with friends about old college parties while looking through the books.

I stole an idea from pinterest and hang them on the wall. It allows them to be seen more and adds pops of color and print to a room!

It is so different trying to unpack a whole house as opposed to a tiny apartment. Add the fact that we are changing the house while we unpack & all our wedding gifts we just got from storage and it equals a huge project.

That's why we were so happy to have it all almost done in time for Ed's Dad and step mom to come up form Florida and see it. We had a great family BBQ and got to eat on THOR (what my mom named our new dining room table). We made crab legs & shrimp! Yum! We learned a new way to cook them by just placing them on the grill instead of steaming them. Also, a little olive oil on the shrimp (still in their shells) and you can put them in a pan on the grill too! Quick and easy. My mom made her BLTS no bread. You take tomatoes (the oval shaped ones) scoop them out and fill with lettuce and bacon and top with a yummy sauce that is slightly like thousand island.

Our nieces had never tried crab and assumed they'd hate it so we made them chicken. Our youngest niece requested "plain white chicken not made of crab" hahah. Our 2 oldest nieces tried the crab and the shrimp and are now hooked! woohoo!

Ed's dad and step mom gave use a wonderful housewarming gift! We are using it for our fire pit & chairs and our back splash for the kitchen (we had another gift card as a rebate from when my aunt purchased our washer/dryer). This back splash is no grout needed which makes the job so simple. We chose a stainless steel one for above the sink to add a little pop, but still match the stainless steel behind the stove.

We have had fun additions popping up in our home this week! We got a new laundry mat & our canvas prints came in. We were really excited to use one to cover the ugly old "weather station" we had in the house. Now no one is the wiser.
Only a few more weeks until our big housewarming with all of our family and friends. It should be a wonderfully fun time! One of our #1 "must haves" when searching for a home was one that we could entertain everyone in. This house meets that criteria and now we are ready to put it to use!Becoming Mrs. Grangerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11647403878016564970noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4476063321260357505.post-45622959612163361382013-07-12T19:07:00.001-07:002013-07-12T19:07:32.111-07:00Stick Stick StuckGood-Bye horrible green bathroom floor! We plan on eventually gutting the master bath for a tub, better vanity, and floors, but until then we simply had to get rid of the gross floor. I know people have differing tastes, but YUCK!

A very inexpensive quick fixer-upper is stick on tiles. They look nice, are easy to install, and work well as a temporary solution. They are also great for first time apartments or college dorms. Ollie's has a bunch and so does Lowe's. We have become regulars at Lowe's since buying the house. I can even "kind of" find my way around now.

The adhesive backing can become a hazard. A few tiles stuck to our feet and the sticky residue stayed on our hands. Thank goodness for Goo-be-gone. If you don't have any you have to invest. This stuff is amazing and is so useful for everything.
We have been so busy moving and home improving that I haven't kept this up at all! Everything is moved in and the unpacking is almost done.

We decided to take our time unpacking boxes so that we could decide where everything would/could go. We didn't want to unpack everything and then be stuck playing a big game of Jenga to get it all in functional spaces. With our kitchen I wanted it to be convenient for use. Dishes near the dishwasher for easy unloading and pots near the stove for easy cooking. We still have some more glasses to unpack & once our china hutch is here we can unpack all our china and spare silverware into it.

We move in a few weeks. Once we move it we will still have things such as a back splash to add and a fire pit to dig. In a few years I really want to redo the master bathroom!

There are somethings such as the floors and painting we want done for move in. We are giving all the closets a fresh coat of paint and today we painted our spare room. We are using it as a kid play room until we have a kid and need a room for them. There are 13 kids in our family and this way there is a place for them to play and be loud and we can put all our old childhood stuff in the room.

We were going to paint a chalk board on the wall, but then Ed decided to just have us paint one whole wall. After painting we realized the other wall had been chalk board painted previously so now they have a whole room. However, the chalk flows onto the floor so Eddie will be building something around the base boards to catch it all.
Afterwards we decided to do a little yard work while we waited on pizza. Gigi calls it "lab" work. We wanted to remove the dead shrubs. We will plant a little for this summer, but in the fall we are killing the yard and restarting since it hasn't been taken care of. Ed's mom was lining all of our cabinets while we were doing all of this. I am so excited because I hate lining stuff.

We had them installed today and the house looks so amazingly different.
Riping up the new floor showed some floors underneath we didn't know about

The finished products are awesome! It's worth investing in good flooring and never by the cheapest padding. You want at least a step up and one with a moisture barrier. You may get the spill up on the surface, but without a moisture barrier you could get growth underneath from it leaking through.
We just have to finish the edges and painting the hallway. It used to be an ugly pink/tan color so we are painting it a clay color a tad darker than the apricot accent wall in the family room.
Poor pup had been getting sick in the house and if a dog is sick for more than 24 hours you should take them to the vet ASAP! We have to change her diet and give her a few pills, but she should be A-okay now!

I am still trying to scrub the paint off of my hands and arms!

Today was a major leap towards the home of our own the way that we want. Eddie spent the day demoing some of the garage and soon he will be building the shelves and what not how he wants.

Some fabulous women helped paint. First up was covering the horrible purple in the guest room so that we can paint it mint green tomorrow.
We washed the whole house and are going to KILZ all the closets. My awesome little is going to paint a chevron print on our stairs. We are super excited. BYE BYE random flowers!!!
We completed the walk through as well as signed the one million pages restating over and over that it was our house and we would pay for it. I almost felt like asking for a moment of silence for all the slain trees on that one document. Our agent was AMAZING and anyone looking or selling in the area please ask me for her contact information. She made this whole process comfortable and fun!

Ed's birthday was a success. After we signed I picked up my mother along with folding chairs and a table. We grabbed mini cheesecakes and tarts from Whole Foods and some birthday decor and made the empty house into a mini party place. It helped that my Aunt sent us two balloon collections. One was Congrats on the new house and one was Happy Birthday for Eddie!
We met up at Mexican with friends and family for a great dinner and then went back to the decorated house for everyone to see and to give Eddie his gifts. My mother had a Rhino painting (Ed's favorite animal since he was a little kid) commissioned for him. His mother got him a gorgeous ladder ball set. It is made of very pretty wood. I got him a globe bar for the man cave.

His mother and grandparents gave us such sweet house warming gifts. They are very precious and so special. This neighborhood is so friendly. My car was in the driveway 10 minutes and two separate neighbors dropped in after seeing a different car and wanted to introduce themselves!

Today began home improvement. We bought paint for a bunch of the rooms! I am so lucky to have sisters and friends volunteering to help us paint over the next few weeks. We are also painting the closets and trim to brighten up all the white. Eddie is going to rebuild our pantry and then on to improving the garage and the backyard. We hope to have a housewarming this summer, but we won't be doing most of the yard until the fall.
I also kept on packing and found some great old books that I am putting up in our 4th room for all the kids to play in at family gatherings and for when we have a kid eventually.
I don't always want the normal easy-to-port cubical snacks such as 100 calorie bars and reduced fat Cheez-its. So getting some fruit and variety in is great. Bonus is its all natural and gluten free. I am allergic to EVERYTHING so these two facts please me greatly. Eating tiny/healthy meals constantly help to boost your metabolism too.
Tonight my mom and I joined some friends for a shopping party at a cute boutique in town center. They catered cupcakes and yummy drinks. I entered to hopefully win another shopping party. Got the perfect blouse for signing on our house and celebrating Eddie's birthday on Friday! Shopping & snacking make the best combination!
So excited to sign on Friday.

I have been multitasking to stay busy. Ed and I LOVE banana bread so I made muffins. The box stuff is great, but they're even better if you add some apple sauce, fresh bananas, and a tablespoon of vanilla extract!

I FINALLY finished all of our Easter cars. I am hugely addicted to snail mail. Formal invites and paper cards are more personal to me then text messages, evites, and facebook. In the digital age a little old school can be refreshing. Plus the stickers are great and it especially allows me to catch up with my grandparents and extended family members who aren't attached to their computers like some of us are.

And so the packing has started. We began with the DVD and VHS collection along with books. I am dividing things up based on what rooms they will go to in the new house. Normally all of our movies stay together, but our niece gave us a suggestion. We have a spare 4th room. We were leaving it empty until we decide to have a kid. We new we could use it as another guest room. Bella suggested a toy room. At first we thought we had no toys, but then realized she was brilliant. We have old Disney movies, my old dolls, etc so we are storing all of that in the spare room so when we have family gatherings if its raining or kids don't want to play outside they have a space to color and play and have some fun away from us stuffy adults.

Day 1 down! Come on Friday!!!!
Becoming Mrs. Grangerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11647403878016564970noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4476063321260357505.post-23150769954593025942013-03-24T06:13:00.000-07:002013-03-24T06:13:09.330-07:00And so it Begins!Eddie and I have both been working lots trying to make any extra money. I am so proud to have a husband that works and hard as he does. I worked until about 1 Saturday and then instead of dragging Ed all around after work I went to different stores with my mom and brought options home to him.

We are going to lay new carpet in The family/dining room, living room, stairs, 4th room, and our room. I found great carpet at Lowe's. I wanted carpet that had a little variation in the color so you can't see every little piece of dirt. Ed's job results in dirty shoes and unless I followed him with a vacuum I loose. So this seems like a great solution. It will be great to for whenever we decide to have kids because they are messy little creatures too. We are also painting a few rooms. Most have great colors already, but we will be painting the family/dining room and adding bead board as well as repainting the guest room, and Ed wants to paint the man cave too. The master, the 4th room, the living room, & the kitchen have wonderful color choices already. We agreed on the family/dining room and guest room, but have to go back for more man cave colors!

Now begins the packing process! I have had some amazing friends help out with box and newspaper donations. We found out to check out the "donated" boxes section at the U-Haul places too. Other than boxes I am a big believer in using suitcases. We will wait on our hanging clothes and throw them in a comforter and lug them like that over to the new place. We have a month and a half so we can slowly move and unpack something prior to the big furniture being brought in.
We are buying a house! We got the call this week to set up utilities. We are so excited. Be ready for home improvement and crafting blogs. It is perfect and in the exact location we wanted. The best part is all that is really needed is things that have to do with our tastes verses the previous owner.

Hoping that furniture sales happen ASAP. The best thing I have learned is to excepted almost anything offered. Luckily my mother is getting new furniture so we shall be taking her old set off her hands. We cannot wait to be able to have our wedding gifts in our home. It will be fun reopening all of them and remembering what we have.

Spending all weekend cleaning, purging, and packing. Throwing out anything still in a box from our move 2 years ago!!! We decided to not be rushed so even though we close this month we have until the end of May to move. It makes it easier to paint and lay new carpet in an empty home and then fill it slowly with all of your belongings.

I know our friends will be incredibly happy because we will actually hire a moving company this time hehe. All of those lovely movers who volunteered last time will only have to sit back and relax this time.

Today is work's Spring into Spring potluck. I made fun colored Hummingbird cupcakes. They are super sweet and easy. Flour, a bunch of sugar, fruit such as bananas, peaches, & pineapple, vanilla, and cinnamon and TADA all done! Decorate with fun colored icing!

Have a lovely Friday!Becoming Mrs. Grangerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11647403878016564970noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4476063321260357505.post-48166066988665271762012-12-10T17:40:00.000-08:002012-12-10T17:40:25.823-08:00Deck the Halls!Christmas is now in full effect here in the Granger home even if I am currently in a t-shirt & flip flops. The tree is decorated, the manger scene is up, the Christmas cards are stamped, & the gifts are BOUGHT. I only have a few tiny extras for Eddie, but he still has almost all of his shopping for me to do. Other than each other we are DONE DONE DONE. So relieved to have everything bought before my grandparents arrive. Now I can visit with them more when they are here.

Next step will be wrapping, crafting, & in some cases shipping. I have opted to do a few homemade gifts this year thanks to pinterest:

I will be making "Candy Cane Vodka" in which you put candy canes in a mason jar and fill with vodka. Let sit (it turns the clear liquid red) then decorate with a lovely bow. You may want to attach a drink recipe or two that use the peppermint drink.

I am also making a homemade scent jar. Put cinnamon sticks, an orange, cloves, and dried cranberries in a mason jar and decorate. You then attach the directions card. "Cut up the orange and then put it and all other ingredients in a pan with water and heat on low." Makes a yummy smelling potpourri you can use over and over all winter long.

I love wrapping gifts it really gets me into the holiday spirit. Next will come cookie baking followed with family time. I hope people remember the reason for the season. Sometimes too much focus is placed on the gifts and not the spirit of Christmas. I have tried to follow the "Acts of Kindness" pledge. I bought the coffee for the girl behind me at the Starbucks drive through (she looked like it was a rough morning). I also donated money to a charity at work and mailed Christmas cards to the troops. Next stop is Angel tree or something similar in nature.

It is a wonderful time of year and I hope everyone enjoys.Becoming Mrs. Grangerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11647403878016564970noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4476063321260357505.post-8759364063446043852012-12-05T20:25:00.000-08:002012-12-05T20:25:01.565-08:00When did I turn 24?!?!Tomorrow marks the 24th year I have been in this world. I am so thankful for my life. I continue to pray and appreciate and remember to experience everything I can. Its fun to look back and think about birthdays past. Remember friends you had and where they are now. Patterns develop as we grow. The events and the people become similar with each year.

This year we started a day early with pizza and tons of story telling at my Dad's with my brother. It was nice to be able to spend time with both my brother and father since we all work completely opposite schedules. Eddie had me open my gift early. The gift was great , but my favorite part was the card. He normally addresses them "Birthday girl", but this year it read "Birthday Wifey".

Tomorrow after works we are taking the puppy and going over to my moms. I am so excited to go see "A Christmas Carol" Friday with my mother-in-law, grandmother-in-law, Eddie, mom, and Pulley. It will be so much fun. This year to celebrate with friends we are going out on Saturday and I am very excited.

The cards are finally done. I bought 3 different kinds and tried to match the card to the family. You never want to send a "Merry Christmas" card if they don't celebrate Christmas. Investing in some general "Happy Holidays" to send out to associates, friends, or those that do not celebrate Christmas is always a good idea. They also allow for you to have more options and then everyone doesn't get the same card. Each year we try to personalize them a little. It's nice to be able to send cards to your loved ones and use them to touch base with some people you may not get to keep in contact with often. We also send out smaller batches of other holiday cards through out the year. I suggest creating spreadsheets then you just have to print labels each season.

My friend Sam has taken the "100 Random Acts of Kindness" Challenge. Her first 4 have been very inspiring and yet relatively easy acts. This has inspired me to try to do at least one a day between now and the new year. Tis the season of giving. "Remember the Reason for the Season: CHRISTmas" is one of my favorites this time of year. I worry too many people concentrate on gifts and materials. This is a nice way to keep things in perspective. We sent extra cards out to the Red Cross to be sent to our troops. We all complain about working some on Christmas Eve or day or New Years Eve or day; when these men and women are risking their lives all day, every day being deployed. The least we can do is send some cards. I think my first "Act" will be taken from yet another friend's. I plan on a starbucks run in the morning and I think I will pay for the coffee behind me :)

This is the first Christmas as husband and wife and I couldn't ask for a better partner in it all. I am truly blessed to be married to such an amazing man. Becoming Mrs. Grangerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11647403878016564970noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4476063321260357505.post-58697537601031240052012-11-21T16:58:00.001-08:002012-11-21T16:58:22.489-08:00Thanksgiving EveCan't believe its already Thanksgiving. Soon it will be Christmas and then a brand new year. Tonight I am baking two pumpkin pies for tomorrow's yummy festivities. I am also borrowing a pinterest inspired recipe for an appetizer.

Take
mini fillo shells
brie cheese
and cranberry preserve
put some of the brie topped with a little cranberry preserve in each shell then bake until melty. Should be amazing.

This time of year reminds you to be thankful for what you have. Always strive for more and aspire to be the best you that you can, but never forget how lucky or fulfilled your life is. I want the high paying, high powered job and to come home to the mansion with the secret rooms and water slides; but until then I am so very thankful for what I have.
I have a great job that I enjoy. These days you are lucky to have a job let alone one that you do enjoy. I have the most amazing marriage with my best friend/husband. We have great friends and family and we enjoy our lives. It is easy to get caught up in what you want or don't have, but its more wonderful to concentrate on all that you do have to be thankful for.

Married life has been a blast. We have finished up the Thank you cards for the generous gifts. I love snail mail and have also sent out Halloween cards, Veterans day cards, Thanksgiving cards, and am working on starting Christmas cards. It's nice to have something other than a bill in the mail. It is also a nice way to let people know you're thinking about them.

I have been put my wifey skills to work and have been putting the crock pot to use. On chilly Sundays its nice to have something warm and yummy cooking all day for dinner. It also makes week night meals easy. For chicken BBQ I use:

4 chicken breats
a bottle of BBQ sauce
1/3 cup apple cider (more or less to taste)
1/4 cup of Worcestershire
some chili powder
And let is slow cook for a least 8 hours. Then take a fork and simply push the meat apart. Its so tender it falls apart.

Be sure to eat too much, smile too big, & laugh to hard with friends and family tomorrow. Most of all be Thankful. Happy Thanksgiving!

It went perfectly. It was so nice to see it all come together and see everyone we love and have an amazing time.

The fun started when my grandparents arrived. We created 20 "welcome buckets" for hotel guests. They were so fun to create. I glittered wine and champagne bottles and then we also got popcorn and Tylenol and covered the water bottle labels in patterned duct tape.

My god mother hosted a beautiful bridal luncheon at Sonoma Wine Bar in Town Center. It was great to have so many women in my life come together. Everyone told stories and of course we are all a bunch of girls so we started crying. The food and wine were AMAZING!

We did a fun nail party with all the girls. It was more fun bonding and girl time. It also allowed everyone to have time to get their nails all pretty for the wedding.

Our rehearsal dinner was great. Everyone had such a fun time. We tried to intermingle people so everyone could meet someone new if possible. We gave all of our parents gifts to thank them for everything. We gave our dads unique cuff links that were of their hobbies. We gave our mothers earrings with their birthstones. We also gave our wedding party their gifts. We gave all the guys signs for their homes. Some were personalized like "Jay's guitar lounge" and some were funny like " A man's gotta believe in something & I believe I'll have another drink". The girls all got bags embroidered with their initial. Inside the bag was a personalized matching makeup bag and a coffee tumbler and Starbucks gift card, tissues for the next day, & hand sanitizer, Tylenol, & band-aids. We toasted with my great great grandparents 50th wedding anniversary cup. It was very funny because one after another about 10 people stood up giving sweet or hysterical toasts.

The day of our wedding was great. I remember everyone saying to cherish every moment of the day and days leading to the wedding and that is what I tried to do. I tried to stay in the moment and really absorb everything. We had a blast getting ready and then to see him at the end of the aisle was the best. We both made it through the vows with only a few teary eyes. I didn't want to be that bride sobbing through her vows haha. The night was a blast. TONS & TONS of dancing and people in the photo booth and eating and drinking. So much fun and the room was filled with love and happiness. We had the best time and feel very blessed.

The honeymoon was so much fun. I managed to forget all my dresses at home and bikinis aren't dinner attire so we "had to" shop hehe. I really did laugh at the fact that I had prepacked everything, but left them hanging in the closet in their bag. I also managed to have a bruise on my chest from my necklace bouncing from dancing. On the cruise we went snorkeling and discovered Atlantis. It was nice to go out of the port here. Cutting out flying was a major benefit.

Today we organized all of our wonderful gifts. All the china is staying safe at my moms until we move as well as extra fun things we don't have room for here. We are hoping to buy a home this winter and then can utilize everything. We used gift cards and money to get a few things we hadn't gotten like the keurig. So much fun to be able to tell people exactly what we used their stuff for. We are stunned by how generous everyone was. We are so excited to build our home together.

I am making my first crock pot stew tomorrow since we both caught a cold upon returning home. I wonder if that was a sign to stay on vacation. I have to do all the name change stuff tomorrow. Guys are lucky when it comes to that. DMV lines here I come woohoo!
Plan, Prepare, and Pack.

Since there will be multiple cars and multiple outfits we have to have everything prepicked and prepacked. The plan is only to have to move make-up and toiletries from one place to another. I have a bag to take for getting ready for the wedding the day of (as well as a mini bag holding my outfit for leaving the reception). I have a bag for the next day with my outfit to the cruise ship.

We are already packing for the honeymoon and I have everything that needs to go to my mom's house for before the rehearsal in another bag. I have seen other brides use this multiple bags and everything goes smoothly. I have also seen some "wing it" and things are forgotten and a mess.

A lot of people will have a emergency kit with them for bridal 911s, but the bride should have one too. I took an old coach case and filled it with the following "just in case" items:

Anti-bacterial ointment
Alcohol wipe
2 sizes of band-aids
Tylenol
Midol
Benadryl
eye drops
spare contacts
chapstick
bobby pins
safety pins
spare pair of earrings

However, no matter how much we try "we plan and God laughs". You have to be ready to roll with the punches.

It has been nice to have some help. As much as I love crafting, it can become tedious.

At one week until the big day I am getting so excited. More family arrives this week. It is an added bonus to life events that you get to see lots of family and friends that you may not always get to see.

I do suggest cleaning your whole house and do all you laundry (including sheets, towels, etc.) a week before your wedding. In the midst of running in and out and having things to do a cluttered house can only add anxiety. Having it all set keeps for a calmer environment and lessens the probability of forgetting something.

Most of our wedding things are at my mother's house. I do not know what we would do if she hadn't opened her house like this. Currently it is filled with gifts, welcome baskets we made, favors, wedding party gifts, table markers, etc. Its nice to have a home base for it all. Plus she has more space to get things done.

We are going to church in the morning. Our last Sunday as "singles". Last Sunday our pastor congratulated a couple celebrating 60 years and announced our upcoming nuptials. It was great to get so many well wishes.

I have had people ask what I am going to do next after the wedding. Well in regards to this blog I am going to keep discussing becoming Mrs. Granger. We still have a lot of "firsts" to experience together. Also, we will be house hunting for a home of our own soon and that opens a whole new adventure. No matter what is next I cannot wait to spend it with my husband.Becoming Mrs. Grangerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11647403878016564970noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4476063321260357505.post-23418390235520074662012-10-03T19:03:00.002-07:002012-10-03T19:03:39.257-07:0010 days leftMy grandparents arrived on Monday and the wedding fun kicked off. I love having them here and hate that they live so far away. They celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary tonight and it is so inspiring. To see a couple so in love so very many years later. Eddie and I both have grandparents that have been married for over 50 years. We are hoping to have some of their great marriage luck rub off on us. To help us with that luck we are incorporating a tradition from each couple into our wedding. We will be cutting out cake with my grandparents' wedding knife. It has their initials engraved and will soon have ours added. We are using Ed's grandparents' wedding cup to toast from. The story says that if you drink without spilling your marriage will be full of love.

We have been so blessed and touched by everyone's generosity. We have received such lovely gifts that we cannot wait to use in our home as husband and wife. It is great to know that every time we use a certain item we will think of the person(s) who gave it to us. My grandfather told me there is some silly rule about not giving knives as gifts. He and I agreed that is just plain silly and everyone needs knives. Wouldn't ya know he gave us our set tonight. Made me giggle. We have been receiving pieces of our china left and right. I can't wait to think of each of my aunts every time we use it and about family friends. Ed's stepmom and dad sent up several large boxes with a bunch of our china in them. We owe them a meal or two! I cannot wait to serve our family meals for decades to come. Every time my mother pulls out her china she shares a story about whomever gave that piece to her. We will be able to do the same and it is exciting.

We had our last meeting prior to the wedding with our pastor. She is an amazing woman who is very inspiring and very confident in us. Premarriage counseling was a wonderful experience. Whether it be with a pastor, counselor, or any other unbiased third party it is worth it for every couple to share in that experience. She was floored because most people come across a topic or two they hadn't thought of, but Eddie and I talk about everything and have a game plan. She couldn't believe how well we communicate and how in sync we are especially being such different personalities. Its nice to know she believes so strongly in us and our love for one another.

This week has been theme week at work. It has been nice to have something entertaining during a week that is seemingly taking its sweet time to pass. Friday I will be up at 5am baking my buffalo chicken roll ups. I got the recipe online and then changes it a bit. Boil and shred chicken breasts and mix with a cup of blue cheese dressing, a cup of franks hot sauce, a cup of your favorite shredded cheese, and 8 oz cream cheese and mix together. Then take egg roll wraps and wrap them up spray with canola oil and bake until golden. they are addicting! I am so excited for next week to arrive. I want to enjoy every activity and cherish every moment. This week I have been getting emails and texts with fun messages filled with love a good thoughts for our upcoming nuptials. Its so special to know others are excited for us and want us to succeed.

Mom and I went into a store the other day and the cashier was making small talk and we mentioned we were wedding shopping. The girl rolled her eyes and said to me "oh so I bet you are a total wreck and freaking out on everyone aren't you?" First of all that is no way to make a sale. I simply smiled and said "not so much". I actually am quite fine. I love to plan and have time lines and lists and truly a wedding shouldn't be stressful. It does take time and money management, but it is fun. Picking out colors, vendors, gifts, wedding guests, etc is all an exciting event that is leading to a life changing moment. I know many say that marriage doesn't change anything. I feel bad for those who believe that. It does change things. It makes you someone's wife or husband. You vow in front of everyone to love, honor, and cherish. No matter what anyone says marriage is a different experience and shouldn't be treated the same as your live-in other half. This is your spouse for eternity. You will build a home with them and a life with them. I am so excited to do that with Eddie.

Becoming Mrs. Grangerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11647403878016564970noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4476063321260357505.post-86705016491971653542012-09-25T03:52:00.001-07:002012-09-25T03:52:31.021-07:00T-minus 18 days and countingSo very excited that the day is so near, but there is so much to do between then and now. I cannot imagine if I had procrastinated. Now I know why people become "bridzillas". They are probably just ladies who did not invest in a Lilly planner and thus did not get things done ahead of time.

We need to get our marriage license still. Obviously the courthouse isn't open when we are off work because that would make life too easy. It is quite confusing to me that you must have a license to get married, to drive, to open a business, etc; but to have a baby and raise a child no one has to have a license? Perhaps we are missing something there.

The bachelorette weekend was quite relaxing and fun. I am not the girl who wants to head out to a male review or act a fool in a bar and think it is okay as long as I yell " I'M GETTING MARRIED" at the top of my lungs. I enjoyed spending time with some ladies I don't get to see all the time because we are working and going to school. It isn't really your last night as a single. Your last night as a single was the night before you started dating the person you are about to marry.

On Sunday I attended my final bridal shower. It was filled with my sorority sisters, past coworkers, and friends. It was a pinterest and pearls theme. Very cute decorations including labeled mason jar glasses and a giant banner that said "Soon-to-be-Mrs.-G." A bunch of the bridesmaids made delicious food. It is so nice to feel all the love from those around you and to be able to share your joy and excitement with them. This is a once in a lifetime milestone and I am enjoying every moment. I feel bad for the women that "can't wait for it to be over" they are too stressed. This is a time of celebration not stress.

Waiting until the last minute will kill you every time. Planning and sending notice out early of wedding events ensures more people can attend and no one feels left out. Plan out your crafting time so you aren't doing it the night before your big day. Take advantage of your resources and free time you have in the months prior to your wedding or any event. Some people may say its too early to buy things or do things, but the earlier you do them the less stress you have. Also, breaking up the monetary expenses is kinder on your wallet.

ODU had an amazing game Saturday and we got to watch the last half (best half) from the comfort of the Big Blue Club. I was amazed at the new way of pouring beverages. There are magnets at the bottoms of the cups so they fill from the bottom and then the magnet seals them. After the game mom and I finished table and seating assignments. Th rehearsal dinner will have table and seating assignments since there are about 43 people we will be fitting into 6 tables. I want everyone to have a great time and those who may not know many people to feel comfortable with who they are sitting with. At the wedding we got all the table assignments done (everyone can pick their seat) and we got the seating assignments done for the head table. We tried to intermingle some of our friends so that no one would feel left out or awkward. We want everyone to meet and greet and dance and have an awesome time with us.
Poor Eddie has two more days. I have had the worst time concentrating this week. Between confirming RSVPs, confirming the limo for the guys, cleaning, and packing I could make "To Do" lists for days.

I am glad so many people have sent in their RSVP. It is terribly hard to get anyone to confirm plans these days. Society has gotten used to saying yes, but meaning maybe and saying no, but still showing. In formal occasions people have to know a definite yes or no. It has such a large affect on every detail. It effects, seating, favors, food, booze, etc. Facebook events (as much as I love them) have killed the traditional invite, but please NEVER create a facebook event to invite your wedding guests.

Eddie kept telling me all week there was no need to clean, that the guys wouldn't care. Every girl knows your house is a reflection of you. And even though guys "dont care" I am sure it would raise and eyebrow or two if our apartment was covered in laundry, shoes, and dishes while they were trying to pregame. Also, I am washing extra blankets and sheets so anyone who needs can crash at our place. During cleaning tonight I made jello shots as my gift to the guys. Since most jello is half boiling water & half cold water I simply replace the amount of cold water with a different liquid. They are called jello SHOTS for a reason.

Tomorrow night Emily and I are finishing gathering everything for the weekend and baking. I already have two totes going down with us but to be fair they are filled with gifts, beverages, and "must have" foods for the weekend festivities. Mainly all that's left is packing up the dog to go to my parents. I figured it wasn't fair to leave Eddie to take care of her while he is also trying to celebrate. A dog is very similar to having a kid and so just like kids our pup is going to her grandparents for the weekend!
I am totally up for fall to be here as long as it waits until Sunday. This weekend Ed and I both have our Bachelor/bachelorette parties. We are in need of warm weather please. I never know why these kinds or parties get such stigmas and become taboo to talk about. I am excited and so is Ed. He is spending the day here and going our with friends. I am leaving town with some amazing ladies and then Sunday he and I will catch each other up on our weekend shenanigans.

My computer is my life. Yes I back things up on email and a hard drive but still whenever there is a malfunction I panic. Last night I went to add the latest RSVPs to our spreadsheet, but my laptop wouldn't turn on and then Ed's crashed on me. His is now fixed and we had to take mine in. The power cord was dead. I had to wait in a line to be registered to now wait in another line to then be told one moment to then be told that would be $79.99. FABULOUS. The lovely gentleman did come to my rescue though and found a forgotten about cord behind the counter and spared me and my $79.99 from having to part ways.

If the frustrating computers weren't annoying enough we woke up this morning to a non functioning Keurig. This did give me an excuse for Starbucks, but driving with only one eye open is probably not what DMV wants you to do. After the computer was fixed we took the broken Keurig back and easy as 1,2,3 they gave us a new one and FREE coffee and then of course I bought coffee because I'm a snob and need MY preferred morning caffeine fix.

This past weekend I got to catch up on some much needed sun in my life. I got to meet Elle's sister and have a great girls day on the bay. I had wanted to continue the fun by laughing at Karaoke with them later that evening, but I party so hard I was in bed by 630pm. Dang migraines make themselves known at the most inconvenient times.

Sunday was a sweet bridal shower. Literally there were tons of SWEETS. Chocolate covered strawberries, pretzels, and Chex mix. Red velvet mini cakes and petite fours. So many yummies that I brought a bunch into work to put a little pep in the step of Monday. It was great to see everyone and Ed's mom and Mutti both were able to join. It was great to share stories and acquaint everyone prior to the wedding itself.

Coming home and being able to have all the windows open while I finalize wedding plans is great. Fresh air throughout the house and the sounds of crickets chirping are two of the most relaxing things in the evening. Soon I have to finish up favors. I have about half done and want to finish the other half before this weekend's endeavors. I hope Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday are pals and fly by for us. I love my shoes but sometimes they don't love me back. Eventually we come to an understanding of I won't hurt them if they won't hurt me, but until then its band-aids to the rescue.

Today we got our first not attending RSVPs. Everyone, who couldn't attend added a sweet note wishing Eddie and I a lifetime of love and happiness. That just filled our hearts with love. Sometimes the reason and meaning for a wedding is over looked. Weddings have become events and thought of as parties. The sacred traditions get shoved to the back. All anyone can remember is the cake and the dancing and sometimes they don't remember the most inmportant parts like vowing to always love and cherish. A wedding is when two souls are so in love and so connected that they cannot be apart. Two people pledge their love, their loyalty, their trust, and their friendship from now into eternity in front of family, friends, and god.

This is a day when the only people who should attend are those who wish you both well. People with positive energy and who support the joining of your two lives and two families into one. No one is entitled to an invite and sometimes that can lead to hurt feelings. There is no rule book about who to invite, what you have to do, who has what "job" in the wedding. Each couple gets to make and design the perfect day for them.

You can't invite everyone you ever met unless money in no object. Weddings can get pricey so be sure you are selecting guests carefully. Make sure they love you both. Make sure they want to celebrate not only with you, but also for you. This isn't simply one giant party where everyone you know attends. Yes, it can be an amazing party but that is after you make a lifetime commitment to the love of your life. It is a serious act and you want people who take it seriously to witness this wonderful moment in your lives.

This evening we got to enjoy NEVER ENDING PASTA. So good, but such false advertising. It does end because eventually you are so full you can't even stand up. Eddie's mom met us and we had a great time talking. It is always great to be able to catch up and share a meal with family members for no reason other than to see one another. It doesn't have to be a holiday or event to spend time with family.
